2000-Traveling Exhibition: Verner Panton – The collected works

Verner Panton’s extraordinarily comprehensive and diverse oeuvre, to which the Vitra Design Museum now dedicates an extensive Retrospektive, is with justification regarded as a major contribution to the development of design in the second half of the twentieth century.

In preparing this exhibition the Vitra Design Museum has access to its unique collection of Panton objects and the entire Panton archive which, thanks to its longstanding personal relationship with the designer, is permanently stored in Weil where it can be researched. In addition to the highlights of his creation in the areas of furniture, lighting and textiles the exhibition, which in the tradition of the designer himself wishes to offer its visitors a highly impressive sensuous experience, includes Panton’s legendary interior design projects, which are at the same time regarded as the synthesis of his work. In this context an authentic partial copy of the ‘fantasy landscape’ room from Visiona 2 is one of the main attractions of the exhibition.
