Visiona 2," the 1970 Cologne furniture fair (FIG. 1),was perhaps the most important setting Verner Panton created. In collaboration with the German company Bayer, "Visiona 2" showcased the manufacturer's new innovative materials and created visions of the future. Panton skillfully staged the space in a profusion of lights and colored armchairs in Bayer plastic, and streams of fabrics and rugs in psychedelic hues. Panton's scenography impressed the public with all its details and included a 3-D lounging landscape where walls, floor and ceiling fused into a multicolour unity.

The hanging lights, specially developed for this exhibition and constructed of balls and twists, emphasized and increased the psychedelic atmosphere of the setting. The translucent Cellidor, created a warm glow at the heart of the room with cooler colors around the edges. The highlights were the ball lights, and especially the "Fireball" version in either its single or triple tier configuration. The present lot, the "Fireball" Light, Type D, is made of Cellidor, Bayer's highly translucent plastic ideal for hanging lights.
